I do this often, play games [Xwords/Jigsaws etc.],while a scan is in progress.
It doesn't seem to interefere, but is this OK to do? Or should one just do nothing and let the scan run?
Thanks all.[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 21 June 2006 at 12:32 PM.] |

Practicing the steel guitar might be more productive, if the wife will let you. On the bright side, at least your'e not out massacring heathens. |

Chip, most things that I scan are done in 30 seconds or less. You must be doing some very high resolution scans. I guess I could play 1/2 of the "Minute Waltz" during one of my scans.
My thoughts are: If you have plenty of memory installed, multitasking should not be a problem. I would think that some games could be real memory hogs.

Thanks Earnest & John,
I guess I should have been more clear; I meant doing other things on the PC while scanning.
I do deep scans. Avast anti-virus takes a good 20 minutes. Spybot & Adaware 6-10 minutes.
And since I have been having some big troubles lately with Trojans & Worms, I have added other malware procedures via advice from Wiz, here.
Well, I'm always practicing the steel. But when I'm at the PC and running this stuff, I'd just as soon stay with it, remove what they find, move on to the next one, and get over with it; or "gitr' done".
No problem with the wife, cuz I don't have one.[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 22 June 2006 at 05:53 AM.] |

Yeah, I just ran Windows Defender (Beta 2) and they actually clock the whole deal.
[Full System Scan]- Objects scanned: 388,799
Time Elapsed: 21:59 minutes |

Chip, I thought you meant a flat bed image scanner.
You could set your task manager to scan for viruses at a time when you are not using your computer.

John,
Yeah, I'm aware of that, except the PC has to be running, and knowing me I'm apt to forget to turn it on sometimes.
Also, if you run 5-6 different things like I'm doing, you really have to close out one to start another.
I created a notepad folder, and starting the next time I run all the programs, I'm going to clock them all, just to see how long the whole deal takes. Some programs don't have a running timer, so I'll just have to do those with a stop watch.
If you're interested in any of this and haven't read my other posts here about Spybot, you might want to check those out.
And in www.castlecops.com they analyze scan logs of your PC and advise as how to fix [if there are problems]. They also tell you the best way to run certain programs to keep the bugs out in the first place. Been very helpful for me.[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 22 June 2006 at 02:03 PM.] [This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 22 June 2006 at 02:05 PM.] |
