Mozilla.org has announced today that they plan to release an emergency update to the popular Firefox 1.5 series browser, sometime this week, possibly today or tomorrow. This is in response to the public disclosure of a serious security vulnerability (bug 334515). This update will be smaller than usual, because it won't contain the planned enhancements that were supposed to go into the next release candidate.

Users of Firefox who have allowed automatic updates will receive a popup notice from their browser that a new version is available. Others should manually check for the update starting later this afternoon, until it is released to the public. The update version should be 1.5.0.3. The originally planned enhancements will be rolled into upcoming release 1.5.0.4.

Thanks Wiz for the update notice.

I was checking to see if I have auto-update in Firefox checked off [I do] and came across
ACCESSIBILITY.

I hope this isn't considered a hijack, but could you explain the 2 options. I'm a bit confused on just what they mean:
1) ALLOW TEXT TO BE SELECTED WITH KEYBOARD
2) BEGIN FINDING WHEN YOU BEGIN TYPING

Chip;
Here is what the built-in Firefox Help utility says about those two items.

Accessibility

Allow text to be selected with the keyboard
Also known as Caret Browsing, this specifies whether a movable cursor is displayed, allowing you to select text with the keyboard. Some accessibility aids, such as screen readers and screen magnifiers, use the system Caret to determine which area of the screen to read or magnify. You can toggle this mode by pressing F7.

Begin finding when you begin typing
When this option is enabled, Firefox will find within the current web page what you type as you type it. While you are finding typed text in the page, the Find Toolbar will automatically display at the bottom of the windows to show information about what you've found.

You can find answers to all of you questions about the use of Firefox by clicking on the menu item "Help" and using the search box or pre-sorted topics.

Thanks Wiz.

I've tried in the past to find answers to these type of things using Windows Help, and well, it wasn't much help - back with W95/98 - on many items.

I'm sure Firefox is probably much better at explaining stuff. Thanks again.

I updated my Firefox to the new version Firefox/1.5.0.3 Now roboform shows "unsupported browser" and doesn't work. I've emailed robo about this problem and will post their reply here for anyone having this problem.

Extensions are written by private contributors who must find the time to update their code every time Firefox has it's base code updated. Some extensions are more flexible than others, regarding working with new releases. Others only require a digit change in a configuration file to be compatible. More complicated extensions require a rewrite to function with new security measures that are implemented in each new release.

Firefox is also not guaranteed to remain stable with user installed extensions. One can easily check for updates to their (installed) extensions by clicking on the menu item Tools > Extensions, then click on "Find Updates."
