The cursor (arrow) keeps jumping vertically, just as I'm about to click the mouse.
It's causing me a lot of aggro, as it becomes difficult to edit music etc.
I've got a new mouse, (hardwired), but the problem is still there.
I need to find out what is causing this problem, is it a virus ? |

Check your system devices in My Computer for problems. [This message was edited by Ray Minich on 30 March 2006 at 03:20 PM.] |

Believe it or not sometimes a mouse pad can cause some problems like that if it's an optical mouse. You need a pad that's a consistant color.

Could be the mouse port on the PC. If it's a "PS/2" mouse, try a USB mouse and see if that makes a difference.
If you have Voice recogniton software, turn it off or at least mute the mike.
Do a complete virus scan, too. |

I had the very same problem ! The thing that Howard Tate posted here, sure cured my mouse problem long ago when I read it on the forum as a possible solution. I went to a plain colored gray cloth pad I had purchased from Comp USA months before I got the new Dell . The Dell came with a high colored , white background, pad . I read this same solution on the forum long ago and once I changed back to a dim color and smooth top , no more mouse jumping around on it's own !

Richard;
Is it a ball mouse or optical? If it's a bll check the ball and roller wheels for lint and remove any. If optical, follow the suggestions above by trying different mouse surfaces.
If none of the above solves the problem open your Mouse Properties and check all available options and settings, including sensitivity if there is such a setting.
If that doesn't solve the problem scan for spyware or Comet Cursors infections. You can find links to download free anti spyware programs from here: http://www.wizcrafts.net/security.html near the lower section of the page. There is a link to an online virus scan from Symantec also, under the Symantec Virus Alerts box.
Let us know how this works out.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.
I've tried an online virus scan as per Wiz' suggestion, but it seemed to take forever, with nothing happening, so I closed it.
I think I'll try Jack's suggestion and get a USB mouse. |
