I have a few songs that were sent midi sequence file. Is there some way to transfer them to MP3 file, so I can burn them to a CD? I'm using windows xp, if that matters. Thanks

There are a couple of ways to do that. If you have Band in a Box, it will import a MIDI file and then "render" (save) to a wav file. You could then convert the wav to MP3.

If your souind card has the "what you hear" or "system mixer" option then you can play the MIDI song with a MIDI player and record to the hard drive with a regular audio recording program.

Finally, if your sound card is "full duplex", and most modern sound cards are, you can play the song with a MIDI player, connect the Line Out to the Line In and record with a recording program.

This comes up occasionally and unless there has been some recent software, you can't directly convert a MIDI file to an audio file.

There is also a free tool available for download to render wave files from midi called SynthFont.

From the SynthFont homepage:

quote:

What is SynthFont?
SynthFont is a free tool for playing MIDI files making use of SoundFonts. With SynthFont you do not need any particular sound card. In fact, if you only want to render audio files ("WAV" files) you don't even need a sound card. SynthFont makes it easy to assign different SoundFonts to difference MIDI channels.

SynthFont homepage also has links to free soundfonts. A very good and interesting resource worth checking out....
