Oh my I need help again!

Hi,

This has happened before and I think the problem was solved with a quick flip of the switch. I just can't figure out which switch. The problem is...I've got all kinds of little horizontal lines running all across my pages (Internet, WORD, etc, everything) and some flickering on the pages too. I thought last time it had something to do with my email mysteriously changing over from Outlook Express to Outlook. But I've checked the default and it looks okay. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks in advance!

Oh...could it be a changing of the Display Theme?

Could be...from Windows Classic to XP? I don't understand all I know about this.

you on a laptop or a desktop?

sounds like your video driver or display settings might be trashed. maybe.

Actually I'd suspect the hardware first....

I have Win XP in a Norwegian version, so I'm not sure what the exact command names are on the English version.

But right click on desktop so the little dialogue box appears. Then click on "Attributes" (or something, it's the option at the bottom), and then click on "Settings".
There you should find an option for troubleshooting, and as far as I can see your problem is described there. Just follow the instrucitions as they appear, and you will be guided through a troublsehooting process that hopefully will fix the problem (or at least figure out what it is).

Actually it really did happen before. Its a display problem for sure and I googled it the last time and got an answer but this time I can't find one. I forgot what I did to correct it the last time. The only thing I've done lately that could have caused it is change the display option to XP and back to classic. I should know better. My monitor is new but my Dell is pretty maxed out. Thanks for brain-storming with me.

I forgot to tell John its a desktop. And Steinar, I've been through that trouble-shooting thing and it bogs down at some point and seems to go in circles. But I appreciate your suggestion. One would think it should help. It seems the classic settings are reverting to XP after I 'apply' them. That shouldn't happen.....

I just checked my Display options again and they all reverted back from where I'd set them to where 'they' wanted to go, so maybe there's something worse wrong than I thought. (I'm sorry, that sentence was awful, its late....)

It does sound like more of a hardware video setting problem than a software one - but it might be worthwhile trying a system restore back to a point in time when the computer was working more to your liking

Mike,

I did a system restore earlier this morning and its only slightly better. Unfortunately the lines are still there, just fainter. I was pretty confident it would work but since it didn't maybe its a new abiding problem. Should my husband just buy me a new computer?

In your Display Properties. Choose Settings\Advanced and in "Default Monitor" choose Monitor. Set the "Screen Refresh Rate"
to 60 Hertz. If the lines are gone at that rate, try increasing the refresh rate again
until the lines appear, then choose the setting just below that.If the lines do not disappear at 60 Hertz, you probably have a faulty display or the wrong display drivers.

It may NOT be your system thats at fault.
It sounds more like it's a monitor problem.

Try running the Monitor calibration program.
I'll bet that takes care of your line problem. I done it a couple of times and it does make the image a lot sharper and cleaner.
