I want to install a DVD rewriter in my computer.
I need to know how to 'De-Static' myself when I do the job.
Thanks, R B

Touch the case before touching any delicate electronic circuits. CD and DVD drives are inside metal cases, so if you first ground your self to the case you will be safe to install the DVD unit into the case. If you are experiencing static shocks continue to touch the case with one hand while holding the parts you want to install in the other hand.

Professional installers use anti-static wristbands, and maintain a 30% or higher humidity level in the installation rooms. A humidifier will suffice, unless you drag your feet across a nylon carpet.

One note on the device addressing jumper (strap) on the rear of the drive. Most commercial PC's that have been built in the last 7 years, or so, use the "Cable Select" method rather than the older master/slave settings. Make sure you set the new drive like the exisitng drives.

(The first time I came across the Cable Select method was in a 1998 (Windows 9Cool Compaq Presario).
