Do any of you know if PayPal has any protection for the Buyer? In other words, if you send someone a payment and they don't deliver the goods, or what they send is unacceptable, is there a recourse to get your money back, or do you really have to use a separate Escrow service to have that level of protection. I tried reading up at PayPal.com about this but it seems most of their protections are for the benefit of the Seller. It does seem that they may offer some dispute resolution services, but it's a little fuzzy.
Anyone know for sure or have past experience to share?
Thanks,

I you buy over e-bay and use PayPal, there is a $200 protection provision for the buyer, less a $25 deductable. I bought a piece of rack gear for around the $200 figure and it was never delivered. I filed a complaint and $175 was deposited to my PayPal account after the seller failed to respond to their request for his "rest of the story". |

Seems like this would help in the Steinar vs.Eric Brown case over in Superior Court.
The defendant was a no-show and the jury has been locked up for unruliness and contempt.

Purchase protection on eBay — PayPal Buyer Protection.
When you’re shopping on eBay, look for items that are covered by PayPal Buyer Protection.
With it, you get free protection of up to $1,000.00 USD on your purchases. To determine if your item is eligible, look for PayPal Buyer Protection in the Seller Information box on the View Item page. When your transaction isn’t covered by PayPal Buyer Protection, you may still be covered by our Buyer Complaint Policy |

I had one transaction on ebay that went bad. I took the complaint to the paypal resolution center and I got 100% of my money back. Here is the page you need to read. It pretty much explains in detal how the process works. I will tell that it works exactly like its written, but it takes a little time, about 45 days from start until you get your money back.....Read over this

eBay or off eBay, I do all of my music related buying/selling with Paypal. It's safer as a seller than just about anything other than someone personally handing me a stack of $1 bills. As a buyer, it's convenient, safe, and I can keep funds seperated from household funds.
There are sellers on the board that I can't do business with because they won't take Paypal payments. Seems silly that they will often take credit cards or (conterfeited more and more) money orders but not Paypal. |
