Use an audio editor, such as GoldWave and you can select portions of the song and then save it as an MP3.

I've done that many times. There are two intro's on my web site that were "clipped" from some recordings I did. I used Goldwave to get the intro portion, used the "fade out" option on the end of the clip and then saved it as an MP3.

An MP3 is the most desireable clip format. A wav is approx 10 Mb per minute where a 128Kb encoded MP3 is approx 1 Mb per minute. 128 Kb is "near" full fidelity.

Here is the link to the tab and samples on my web site. http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jstoner1/intros.htm

Basically the same thing. You can "record" to the hard drive from the sound card input. But, if you only want a clip or a "lick" then just record only what you want.

Otherwise, record the entire song (or whatever it is) to the hard drive. Once it's on the hard drive you can edit it however you want.

I use "Nero Wave Editor". It is very easy to understand. Wave Editor is included in the Nero Ultra Edition software which I use for burning CDs. Therefore, I didn't have to buy another program, just for editing sound files............ JD

I've got Nero V6 and Roxio V7.5 and a recent Soundblaster editors and they don't come close to what GoldWave will do. For the money it's one of the best software buy's around.

Nero recently came out with V7 and it has a lot of "bloatware" in it and they outdid Roxio as it's buggy (from the many comments on the web). I downloaded the 30 day trial version and after doing an audio CD burn I uninstalled it and went back to V6.
