My spanking brand new I-Pod Mini is still sitting in it's box. Before I start transferring all my C.D.s to my I-Mac, I was curious if anyone had any advice or warnings about the process that would help a technical idiot such as myself. Perhaps something you wish you had known beforehand? Some process you would have done differently? An organizational issue?

Any nuggets would would greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

In iTunes you create play lists. They are similar to folders.

When the iPod is attached you can decide what play lists you want to be downloaded to the iPod.

The original tunes never leave your computer, they are just copied to your iPod. You can not copy from your iPod.

An easy way to copy a CD to iTunes is: create a playlist with the CD's name. Insert the CD, select all it's contents, and drag and drop it to the new playlist. This imports the entire CD to your library as well as the play list.

Browse the support forums at apple.com
Every mistake that was ever made is listed there. Also review the video tutorials at apple.com

Somtimes a reset is needed, if it behaves odd or locks up/ To reset, hold the middle button and down arrow until an Apple appears on the screen.

It's a good unit.

Go into preferences and set it to manual instead of automatic if you want your Ipod to store tunes that you don't want to keep on your hard drive.

Its a great thing to have. Get an iTrip and its goodby to crappy radio in your car forever.

Get in touch if you get confounded by it or ask any 20 year old walking by.

All this importing is quite addictive. 41 C.D.s and counting! Of course lots of good steel guitar music.
