Periodically I get a FF popup called (I'm not quite sure) Mozilla Feedback Agent or something like that. It wants to cue me through a process of info gathering. It causes all browsers to close. It always seems to happen at a lousy time. I'm running FF 1.0.6. When I installed this latest version I tried to de-select this annoying program but it wasn't an option. Any ideas how I can a) find it in my system and b) disable it? If it is something I just need to put up with in order to run this free browser, well, ok, I guess, but it ticks me off.

Jon
this doesnt happen to me & I run Firefox 1.0.4.
When you install FF, if you take the 'advanced/experienced' installation option, it gives you a choice of which components to install. One of them is the feedback agent.

So, you just need to do an uninstall/install and just select the minimum options.

That could be it Mick. I'll look into that.

our posts crossed - I reedited mine when the penny dropped. I'm 99% sure this will fix it.

Hmm--I can't find an "expert installation" option. I can choose a "Custom" installation option but the 'quality feedback agent' check box is greyed out--I cannot unselect it. I'm back where I started. I wish I could find it in the Mozilla folder. I'd just try to ditch it or subvert the name or something. I'm going to go looking for it again.

woops, 'custom' is what I meant.
It wasn't greyed out when I last installed. Maybe they weren't getting enough feedback and so made it an obligtatory item in the latest version ?

Jon;
The Quality Feedback Agent is actually a program named talkback.exe, which is found in your C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components folder. Delete these files to kill the feedback/talkback agent and stop it's reporting of crashes:
talkback.cnt
talkback.exe
talkback.hlp
talkback-*.ini (whatever characters follow the dash).

From the Talkback.hlp file I found this section:
How do I turn the Agent on and off?
"The Agent wizard appears when the Agent is activated for the first time. The default setting is on, and the Agent wizard gives you a choice of turning the Agent off at this time.
After the initial Agent wizard display, you can turn the Agent on or off at any time by selecting The Agent command from the Communicator menu, or by clicking on the Agent icon in the taskbar status area. From the Agent Monitor window Settings menu, select Turn Agent On (to activate) or Turn Agent Off (to deactivate)."

IHTH, Wiz

Bingo, Wiz. I couldn't find anything anywhere called "Quality Feedback Agent" so there was my problem. Found it & switched it off. Could be that the cause of my problems is Firefox crashing and not the Talkback thing coming up. But at least I was able to take care of this. You have made your bones as Moderator. Thanks.
And thanks, Mick.
