I've been trying to put some wave files up on my Comcast web page to no avail...anybody got any ideas what I'm doing wrong?I followed all the directions...thanks...and they HAVE to be Wave...I can't use MP3...

I didn't see any pointers in your page source that referenced audio files, but your link to Mike Beck's page has a forward slant before "html" that is likely to be a problem.

Dave-thanks!One too many slashes...try it again...still,I should't have to post the link...I downloaded the songs to my computer and converted them to.wav...thanks again!

To play audio files on a web page, one must upload the files to the server where all the rest of the web page files are, and then include some html in a page that points to the audio file.
The process might differ for you, however, since I see a lot of cgi references in your page source code that makes me think your access to the server may be limited in some ways. |

I have a couple of MP3 files on my web page. The wav files are too big as I only have 5 Mb for my RoadRunner personal web page and I'm also hosting the Florida Steel Guitar Club web site on it, too.
A wav file will be approx 10 Mb per minute where an MP3 will be approx 1Mb per minute.
The two on my site are actual playing of two tabs I have on there. The tabs were originally published in the PSGA newsletters. Hearing the tab being played, at least for me, helps to understand it.

I'm supposed to be able to actually download audio files to my website from the hard drive on my computer...it specifies that they must be.wav or.ra files...I converted the files from the mp3s on Mike's site,they start downloading,but they never seem to finish...?

You may know this already, but, if not, looking around on comcast.net I saw that they make 25MB available to you for your personal use. That might help you for planning what you can put there.
Also, for reference, the smallest audio file size format I've found is .wma, at only about 1/3 the size of an mp3. wma is useful if file size becomes a primary issue.[This message was edited by Dave Potter on 23 July 2005 at 05:46 AM.] |

Had the same issue with my old att.net account, Steve. There's a utility that will allow you to change your already-ripped mp3 files to Stealth mp3s. These files retain the same smaller size as the mp3, but can be posted on servers that limit mp3s. I've put up a copy for download HERE.

| mp3 files can be made to most any size you want by selecting the "bitrate". I convert with a bitrate of 32kb which gives me a file about the same size as a wma file. This bitrate is good enough for demo songs. A 20mb wav file converts to ~5ookb mp3. There is a shareware,wave to mp3, converter(free download) called "switch" that works good. |

I misspoke. I looked at the wma and mp3 versions of one of the files I converted and thought they were corresponding bitrates.
I looked again and see that I used 32Kbps for the wma, but 96Kbps for the mp3. Sorry for the confusion.
I use Adobe Audition. |
