On my XP rig with Firefox browser, when I open an mp3 or a web page (like a page of tab or a jpg, for instance) with a left-click of the mouse, if I then choose to save it to a file, it downloads all over again rather than just saving it from my temp file. This is a nuisance with my dial-up service. Of course I could just right click and 'save target as' to begin with but I often don't know I'm going to want to save it until I open it first and see (hear) it. Seems to me IE was more efficient about this. Is there some setting in Firefox that I'm missing? |

check the size of your cache setting (tools, options, privacy, cache) and make sure it is at least 10000kB. That should insure that images aren't downloaded multiple times. However, I don't think Firefox tries to cache downloads such as mp3s. |

I just did some more poking around. My copy of Firefox (1.0.4) does cache mp3 files. To see what is currently in your cache, and to find out where the files are stored on your computer open the location "about:cache". |

Thanks, Will. My cache was already set at 50000kB. Can you further explain "open the location 'about:cache'" please----I'm drawing a blank on the procedure of "opening the location". |

By open location I meant to type it into the address text input box (where it currently says http://steelguitarforum.com/...). Sorry for the confusion. |

Thanks Will. Didn't know you could do that. So what I get is that I've got plenty of available space in my "Disk cache device" but my "Memory cache device" reads:
Number of entries: 802
Maximum storage size: 31744 KiB
Storage in use: 30617 KiB
Inactive storage: 25120 KiB
which seems to be tapped out to me.
Incidentally, the disc cache does detail the path to its location but the memory cache does not.
So I don't really know where this leaves me.

DIAL UP?
I know Broolyn is a little behind the times but if you keep your eyes open you might find a broadband ISP coming to your area some day. |

broad band. Interesting term. Not familiar with it. oh--like the Go-gos or the Bangles or the Dixie Chicks? I can see their value, I suppose, but I don't see how that would improve my computer performance. |

FIREFOX - go to TOOLS OPTIONS DOWNLOADS
There you can set the folder to which all file saves should go to. |
