I have an older computer w/ windows xp that I have hooked up to my DSL, no problem. I have a newer computer w/win xp and when I try to log on to DSL it won't let me until I disable the Norton anti virus. Both computers have Norton anti virus.

Norton Antivirus should not have any affect. Are you sure it's not Norton "Internet Secturity"? which also has a firewall and if the firewall is not configured correctly you will not have internet access.

Yes, it sounds like the firewall is blocking the internet access, perhaps it has 'asked' you about this at some point and you have checked the "no" option? Anyway, this can be fixed in the firewall settings.
Another thing is that if you have the WinXP firewall enabled there can be a conflict between that and the Norton Firewall. Try disabling the XP firewall and see if that helps (this only applies if you have Service Pack 2 installed).

Regarding the XP firewall (if you have it installed), you go to the "Start" menu (down at the left corner of your screen), go to "Control panel", and there you should find "Windows Firewall" (look for an icon with a brickwall). Open it up and check the 'off' option.

Not sure about how to access the right menu in your Norton firewall since I only have the Norton AV program. But I'm sure somebody else will explain that.

I have Norton Anti-virus. I have been trying to update1 on Service Pak 2, and it wont't install all the way, gets hung up and stops.
I have tried it several times and sent in the Error Report several times and no response. So I just ignore the little icon that asks me to up date Service PK.
There is a lot of bugs in today's software. a lot of Redundant code, makes the program run slower than it would if it was coded in Machine language.
I have Norton anti Virus 2002 and it has been working great. I bought a Norton anti Virus 2004 and installed the CD.
It makes all my programs run so slow, you wouldn't believe it. I couldn't stand it so I re-installed the 2002 Norton Anti virus disc and everything is fine again. So, I am getting leery about upgrading. Lots of times , you don't need it....al

No I don't have SP2 installed on the computer in question. And I can't find a way to access anything in Norton that says anything about firewall??? However on my older computer I DO have SP2 installed with firewall "on" and Norton Anti Virus (maybe an older version) and I have no problem with DSL access.
