A couple weeks ago I shut my dell system down
after it claimed some windows files needed replaced.
Since I rebooted I keep getting messages to check
APP or DLL c:\windows\system 32\mswsock.dll which claims to be an invalid image.

Unfortunently my system will not accept my windows 25 charecter key for diagnostics.

Also I looked up that file and the only date on it was 2001. I got this computer in March 2002.

I'd say it's time to contact Dell. Their support team is quite good in my experience.

If you're running Windows XP with System Restore enabled, you could try rolling back to an earlier save point-- one created before you began having this problem.

Busgal, you might find the file you need at this site:
http://www.dll-files.com/

These type files disappear every once and a while. I've simply replaced them.

Ms Brooks.

Type the EXACT error message in a Google Search in quotes. Parts of it if that doesn't hit.

That's what Pro Techs and troubleshooters that I know do.

Hasn't missed for me yet.

It will usually end up on a tech board, and you might have to search the page.

I had a Netscape 4 problem that crashed it totally and found how to rewrite my JS Preferences easily enough, and as wel a total computer blue screen that only need a reinstallation of my sound card apps and drivers.

Good luck. It always pays to have two computers.

Janice,

Did you remove Morton antivirus, firewall, or any other virus program? I've seen errors from that file after someone uninstalls some versions of Norton. (NAV 2002 in particular)
