I'm done with audigy2

Since I wiped my old computer disc and reloaded audigy2, it has given me nothing but problems. I bought it a year ago, but now it sucks big time, for whatever reason. My biggest hope was to use the breakout box for recording, but now screw them. I'll find a nice little card and let my granddaughter play with the computer.

That brings me to a bigger question. My Cake walk pro Audio9 program will not work with XP. I can upgrade to Cakewalk Sonar, or go to another program all together, like Pro Audio.

Anyone have any experience or recommendations with other programs.

Ken, If you care to comment, what specific problems did you have with the audigy 2. I've had a couple of different soundblaster cards and they have been trouble free. I was thinking of getting an audigy 2 for a new computer but now you got me worried.

Larry: Part of it is the never ending uninstall/re-install that I have gone thru to get it to work. Now, it will not play wave or midi files on the CD or in the computer. They all sound like a skipping record playing both ends and the middle at the same time.

I have contacted Creative Labs and their recommendations have 30 items to go thru that MIGHT work. I am just sick and tired of all the hours spent with no results.

On the internet, there are comments not favorable to Creative labs as well as some no problems comments. I would check online comments and not take my word for it. Other forum members have it installed with little problems. An updated version may work well for you.

For me, I am soured on it and tired of my own experiences, be it the program or the dummy trying to install it.

I have the regular Audigy card and while it has worked for me it would cause eventual crash of my HD. I know this because I have been surfing without sound for a few months now and no problems. I did a complete reinstall and left out the soundcard.

I finally bit the bullet and went with XP when a lot of folks felt the drivers for Paris 3.0 were fairly stable. I still use CWPA 9.3 for sequencing only and I had heard it would not work with XP. When I asked CakeWalk, they said they would not support it on XP. A keyboard/computer geek friend of mine told me there was no reason it would not work on XP. He was right and it works fine. However, my previous midi interface was not compatible with XP and I did have to buy a unit that is. Works correctly.

Although I use it for midi only, I've been told that the audio portion will work on XP as well (I'm also finding that XP Home is recommended more often than Pro.

I have an Extigy, which I think is the external version of the Audigy. It connects via the USB port. I've had no problems with it, except that the built in MIDI synth isn't all that great.

I'm using it with Windows 2000 Pro, and dual processors.

Odd thing, I'm still trying to get that sucker going, only because it once did work. I went thru the list of recommended actions.

Everything about the card seems to work except it won't play wav files correctly. Perhaps Creative labs may find a fix, but hope is fading. And, thanks to those who Emailed. I do appreciate it.

I checked in at the Cakewalk Home studio forum and a lot of the folks there were complaining about the audigy cards as well. I've had both the AWE 64 gold and the SB Live 5.1 + MP3 cards and they have never given me any trouble. I wonder how Creative managed to screw up the audigy series.

I had an interesting reply from creative. It was basically a shotgun approach where they listed bunches of items that may be a fix or a cause of the problem. A lot of it blamed things beyond the soundcard. So I downloaded the latest winamp. Guess what.
the wav files played just fine.

That nailed it right to the Audigy card and software. I requested a new installation disk as mine was a little scratched. I'll see what the reply is. If there is no resolution:

In spite of their help, which is genuine, I'll rip that sucker out and mail them the peices.

Before you throw it in the bin, you should try the free KX drivers for Audigy: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=1
Back when I had the Audigy installed I used these drivers and they are much more stable than the originals, and they also work at a lower latency. You lose some of the 'toy' stuff in the Audigy, but it's worth it.

Give it a try, and if it doesn't work then buy an Echo Mia or something similar for recording, they doesn't cost much more than the Audigy.

Looks like the VIA chipset could be the problem. Try downloading the latest drivers from the Via website. If you follow Steinar's link, go the FAQ page, then follow some of the links. WOW! Lots of info & stuff to be had.[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 02 June 2004 at 03:03 PM.]

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I've ordered a new installation disc from Creative Labs. I could see some scratches in mine and that might be the problem. I have not given up as I said I did only because of the breakout box.

However, if this next try doesn't solve it, or some of your suggestions above, then I will move on to another card.

Ken, I'm using the Audigy2 platinum sound card with the extermal control box. I to had problems at first with it, and no real help from Creative, but as mentioned by another reply try the forum or Cakewalk themselves, they did more for me than Creative did. Also a lot of my problem was (has Bob said) was my own doing and not the software. I realy like my sound card and Soanar3 it's my PC that's beginning to suck. So looking at an HP, top of the line. Also, take a look at your PC spec's, What windows version are you using, the problem could be there.

I just bought a new Dell 8300 top of the line computer. I would NEVER think of installing an Audigy sound card in it. I might install the latest Sonar software from Creative labs if it comes to that. The question here is Audigy on my old computer which did work fine, and worked fine with Pro Audio 9. I think I screwed up my install disk from Audigy, therefore it would not load correctly after a hard drive wipe. Hopefully in a few days when I receive the new disk I can say all's well that ends well.

This is just for info. I believe this thread has about run it's course, but I had to add this. Murpheys law strikes again.

I received the package from Creative labs for my new Audigy2 installation disk. I carefully slit the plastic and pulled out the shipper. It said new installation disc for Audigy2 platinum ex. Yesss.........it's finally here.

I cut off the top of the shipping bag and pulled out the disk. It said, "Software for a Webcam." The latest and greatest.

I'm beginning to think those folks in Stillwater, OK. should start drinking bottled water and leave the local supply in the ground.
