I got a digital camera today, and each time I try to install the software-- by inserting the CD-ROM into the drive-- the computer freezes up. The computer easily meets the software requirements/specs; I am assuming that the digital cam software is conflicting w/another program on my computer. (The camera software installed w/o any trouble on my laptop.)

Does the system freeze-up upon inserting the camera CD-ROM indicate a conflict? If so, is there a logical, straightforward way to determine where the conflict is, or do I need to tediously uninstall & re-install various programs one by one to determine which program the conflict is with? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

John, I assume you are running a virus scan program like McAfee. Does your new software have a disclaimer about disabling virus scan before you install the software?
As an alternative, see if you can download a version of the software from the manufacturer.

Karlis's response just jogged my memory about one time I couldn't install something from media (CD or floppy) provided by vendor but had no problem with the same software via download. Didn't understand it then, don't understand it now but it was the right work-around.

Thank you for your responses, Karlis and Jon. I was able to load the software by Ctrl-Alt-Deleting & shutting down all the background programs except for Explorer & Systray, and now it works just fine. I really don't know that much about the inner workings of computers, just enough to get me in trouble. In other words, I don't know just what I did, but I got it to work. This fix further confirms my secret suspicion that computers operate on voodoo...
