Apple announced some new products today.
The one that I find very interesting is "Garage Band", which is part of the new iLife suite.

It appears to be a BIAB on steroids. I've been waiting for PG Music to release their Mac OSX version of BIAB, but now I'm not sure if I want it. ILife is only $49, BIAB is several times that amount. Of course you need a powerful Apple computer

(I have the computer, a PowerBook G4 with SuperDrive purchased two months ago.)

Info about iLife, including a demo movie is at http://www.apple.com/ilife/

I try to avoid newly released software, but I suspect this will be an exception.

One thing I noticed is there are no sample songs to listen to in ilife, or I missed them somewhere. At least BIAB has samples.

I'm still at BIAB ver 10 and looking for something that may be better, even to the investment of a Mac if necessary. I do have some mac internet studies to learn from, but haven't as yet had the time.

It looks more like ACID than BIAB. Loop-based music.

BIAB applies styles to chord progressions, and outputs MIDI. ACID repeats small segments of pre-recorded music and outputs audio.

Personally, I find the BIAB approach more useful for real composing. I like working with chord progressions, and trying them in different styles. It has expanded my understanding of music.

Bob, I think it can do some of both. But, if you have a MAC what a great practice tool for only $49. I have spent that much on one or two tracks to play with. I have it ordered so I will let you know how it works when it gets in.

The price is great, and it includes upgrades for other programs in the iLife suite.

Besides, BIAB for OSX in not yet available.

I look forward to your report Bob.
