I just got an email from sender 'eBay, Inc.' as follows.

quote:
Dear eBay User,
During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we could not verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete.

As a result, your access to bid or buy on eBay has been restricted. To start using fully your eBay account, please update and verify your information by clicking the link below : (LINK)

The linked page looks like an ebay log in page, but has a really long URL. Instead of logging in I went to my regular 'my ebay' page and logged in successfully. I tested my account by placing a bid in an auction with no problems.

Be suspicious whenever getting a prompt to provide your information even if the site looks legit.

same thing just happened with me- only it was regarding my Yahoo-Wallet account. I did exactly what you did, but take a look at Bobby Lee's reply to my post last night (stolen identity). He give great tips concerning the http(s) meaning secure. Also, the url deception of the site. EBAy did the same thing to me recently, but I've had no transactions since Christmas, so I didn't even bother to read it.
if you happen to still have the email, someone told me to forward it to abuse@ebay.com
