I used WORD to type in a load of tab, & it looks fine on the screen, but when I print it out the formatting goes a bit awry
e.g some (but not all) characters that were vertically in line (to make a chord) are no longer quite in line.

I have tried using various different fonts, but the results are the same.

Anyone got any clues ?

Word uses True Type proportionally spaced fonts. Either use Courier font in Word that is monospaced or copy what you have and paste it into Notepad, which uses a monospaced font.

I just did 'select all' and changed the font to 'Courier New' and the formatting went crazy. Is there a different 'Courier' I should use ?

Courier New is the correct font. The reason your formatting went crazy is that now every character takes the same amount of space, so now you'll have to respace everything to get things to line up again.

I would suggest using Excel for tabbing. You have a lot more control of where you're numbers will sit. Also, you can make up a tab line template to use for all of your tabs, exactly the way you like it.

Or Clictab, which makes everything MUCH easier.

Tab Printout II: Are font and font size the keys to printing out correctly-aligned tab? I don't have the tab program or the MS word processors on which the tab was created, but I need to print out from email or the Forum. Copy-and-paste functions skew things up, and the tab arrives skewed in my email.

If matching fonts is the key, what is the display font used in the Tab section of the Forum? And what about in the Feedback and Testing area?

Thanks,

Jeff

When I use Word for tab, I use a table, which makes the lining up of strings very easy. I have tried using the tab settings before but this can be a real pain.

these days I use Excel to produce tab, but I post the final result as a JPG on a Website. When someone posts TAB as embedded text within a forum message, I just do a 'select all' and then copy/paste into Word. I delete all the non-Tab stuff, and then change the font of whats left to Courier New. Finally, I change the font until it looks right & its ready to print

md: Thanks. Maybe tinkering around in the right word processor is the key. So far, Netscape Composer isn't getting it for me. I have another called Word Edit that I'm going to try.

This seems like something which should be simple...and thus so vexing when it doesn't work. (Sort of like playing steel guitar?)
