I got an email today with the Klez virus (again) with the Subject: "Returned mail: Host unknown (Name server: ao.o: host not found)". Norton caught it, but with a title like that, most people are going to open it.

Wow! You mean I actually got a VIRUS named after me??! Now I know I've hit the BIGTIME! A lotta people get diseases named after them and it confers a kind of immortality, doncha think? My guess is that the virus will be around for a lot longer than the CD in question, and I won't have to pay to replenish the stock!

But seriously, Richard, I've not seen this virus myself, and I don't use Microsoft Outlook for my email, and you and I have not had any direct correspondence that I can recall, so you're definitely not in my address book anyway. All I can imagine is that the virus picks up on key words that it finds in things that you might be reading online, so it looks like the email you get sent is relevant to you, and you'll be more likely to open it. I've seen that sort of thing happen to me several times as well.

The latest virus I keep getting is one that appears to be from an acquaintance, telling me they're sorry they sent me a virus by accident and that I should go into my Windows directory and delete a certain file that has the virus. My understanding is that the entire email is a hoax and is the virus itself, the point of which is to get people to delete normal Windows files from their operating systems and become unwitting dupes in the scheme.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about this virus you've got, and I assure you that the actual JimCohenCD ("Finally Here") has no viruses on it!!

Jim,
Is this an "Acceptable Virus"?

Janice B. got one named after me a few weeks ago. See http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum12/HTML/000962.html

My system checked Clean, I never had correspondance with her, so it's coming from elsewhere. Sounds like the same thing.

I've been getting a lot of strange emails that seem to be steel guitar related. Yesterday I recieved one that finally looked like it might be legitimate - I opened it - sure enough, it contained a virus. Just this morning I recieved one from somebody with an email address that went like this [steelpix@???] - I didn't open it!

I still get them. Not as bad as b0b, who claims 20% of his email is viri.

I suggest we all follow his advice over at http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum7/HTML/001748.html

I don't know if it's the same virus or not, as I use Netscape and it doesn't show it, but I got an apparantly blank email yesterday from b0b's email address. I spoke with him about it, and he said his computer didn't have a virus.

Obviously this thing is quite good at counterfeiting other peoples email addresses, making it all the more likely you'll open it, being it's from someone you trust.

I think the people who creat these virus's are just plain evil.

Yesterday I received 24 emails replying to me saying that I sent them a Virus. I have never seen these peoples email addresses ever in my life. I have McAfee 6.02 virus scan and it is updated and I have a Firewall on my PC and a Cable Modem router with a Firewall built onto it. I am constantly scanning my PC for viruses, I am a very persistant person as far as 'safe computing' goes.

Someone who has my email address in their address book has my email address and their computer is spoofing my address. Man this really burns me up! My name is going around and I didn't do it!

I don't know if any of you will get this from me, but it really isn't me if you do.

As far as I can tell it is the same thing. The subject line is crazy and there is a attachment that is the virus.

I have done scan's over and over now looking for this virus on my PC and it is not there. I am clean.

If I can get 5 minutes alone with the creator of this virus!

Mark

Does anybody know where to download the fix for the many forms of the Klez virus?

I updated the latest for Norton Anti Virus 5.0 and installed and ran it. It said I have no virus's, but I suspect that I have it.

Has anybody received any suspicious emails from me?

If so, SORRY.

Regards,
HH

Yesterday I received an email that I suspect.
The space that tells who the email is from was blank.. The subject line was something about ebay. How can you block email from no one?? I tried to make a message rule but there was no provision for a blank "from line" Winston

I have received a couple of emails from folks in the last few days accusing me of sending them a virus. My computer did have a virus but is now cleaned. I got it from an innocent looking email from a name I knew. I have since updated my virus software and virus definition files. I would never knowingly send some one a virus.

Steve,

I hear ya! This virus spoof's a persons name and makes it look like you sent the virus, but you really didn't. In the 'Steel Players' section of the forum, there is another thread going that was started by Ray Montee regarding this same issue. My name was also spoofed and that really irks me.

These are not the first virus's I have received, but I have just got 7 or 8 from someone using the name of - jeffran@jeffran - I know that isn't Jeff Newmans right email address, so I just deleted them.
These all seem to steel guitar related??
