If I go about my daily tasks and then decide to have a look-see at who's been sending me whatever - my screen is just a grey blank.
I touch any button and there is a clicking sound from the putor (working) then a coloured line decides to make an entrance in a vertical plane centre screen.
This started happening about two weeks ago. I have "defrag" start each day then an automatic Klez virus scan but it still persists. Anyone?????????

Is it possible for you to try another monitor? From what I can understand it almost sounds like a horizontal problem in your monitor. Good luck.......Fred |

Another possibility is that the energy saving "feature" of your system isn't working right. I run Windows 2000, but yours is probably about the same. Right click the desktop and select Properties. Click the Screen Saver tab, then Power. Try setting your monitor to be on all the time (turn off all power saving) and see if that helps.  |

I went the way Jim mentioned and got it sorted out.
Travis - where were you this last weekend??

| I don't know about your monitor problem, but running DEFRAG every day is doing nothing but wearing out your hard drive! (It just isn't necessary.) Runing it every few weeks should be sufficient for most all home computers. |

When the dust settled and I figured it out , I'd got the monitor in a "stand by" config' which meant that it took my old 'putor the longest time to come out of its sleep - I'm only on the phone line, so it takes a lot longer right from the start.
