What is the file extension of the files you've downloaded? Is it .doc, .txt, .zip, .pdf, or what???

If the file is a zip file (compressed with the zip format) you will need WinZip or a similar program (You should have an unzipping program on your drive anyway).

Maybe the file you are downloading is not a document type file but something else???

Mickey;
I'd just go to downloads.com, zdnet or tucows.com and download "WinZip". When I double click a zip file, the program pops right up. It could be that your zip file association is wrong.
