This may be a dumb question, but how do you convert pictures from bitmaps to jpg forum? |

Adobe photoshop will do it, and a lot of people have free versions of that from Magazine cover CDs.
You just load up the BMP then save it as JPG

Most of the graphic programs will convert or save a file in a different format. When you save the file, select "save as" and most will give you an option as to what type of file to save it as. If you want .jpg then select that type. |

Windows Paint will do the job fine. Open up your Bitmap, click on Save As, and in the dropdown menu select JPEG. Type in the filename and presto!
For more control over the quality you really need another program, such as PhotoShop or Microsoft PhotoDraw.

I use Paint Shop Pro for everything concerning pictures. It does 90% of what Adobe PhotoShop does, for about 1/4 of the price.
Irfanview is a good freeware program for viewing and converting images. The Irfanview home page is at http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/

I'll second b0b's recommendation on Irfanview. It's free and handles virtually any graphic format, including all those cute little animated critters you find on people's web sites.

Do a web search for a program called...
ACDSee32
It has some really nice features (like automatically displaying thumbnails..which can be enlarged to either business-card size, or full-screen) Seeing 25 thunbnails on the screen at once sure makes finding the right jpeg easy!
(You can download a free-trial version that will work for a couple of months.) |
