Does anyone know any generic drivers or substitute drivers that may work on my modem. It is a ViVa 33.6LC-V. I looked on Viva's website and nothing they offer will work. I thought of using a substitute driver but have no idea where to start. thanks for the help. Winston

In many cases a "Hayes or Hayes Compatible" will work for many modems. Since you have a 33.6 modem, which is a V.34 modem, look for something this is for a V.34.

These suggestions may or may not work but it's worth a shot if can't get the modem to work any other way.

What kind of problems are you having with the modem Winston? From my experience, only Win Modems actually require device drivers. I'm not absolutely certain, but I think that most 33.6 Kbps modems are not Win Modems. If so, you may be able to get it working without a device driver. Is it external or internal? If internal, what expansion slot (ISA or PCI) is it plugged into and does it have jumpers & pins on it to configure IRQs, I/O addresses, & Com ports? It's possible that you may just have a resource conflict of some sort.

George, the modem is the same one that has always been in the computer. Since reformatting the computer I have not been able to get the modem to work. If I remove it and restart the computer it is detected as new hardware and asks for the driver disk, which I do not have. I have thought about just buying a new modem but that seems to be the easy way out.
Jack, I will try more of the Hayes compatible

Winston-

Having the system look for a Hayes compatable driver should work. You will be much happier with a 56K, however.

Winston -- Your modem is made by Computer Peripherals International (CPI). I did a web search and came up with a driver/installation file for you. The one you want is third on the list at the following URL:

http://www.windrivers.com/script/drivers.asp?company=CPI

Also found out your modem is the same as Lucent modem. -- Everett
