*%&$(&^^#^*%^#$#$&%(&*....Netscape

Post by Joe Delaronde »

I done everthing you fellows told me to, one at a time. Netscape still rules. I re-installed NS with custom mode. Still no dice.
When I use IE, the home page becomes Netscape and the very top header line reads netcenter - Microsoft Internet Explorer.
After the page has loaded, a box appears with an IE upgrade ad, then it is immediately covered over with a Netscate Fast seach advertising, leaving script errors in the IE ad so I can't click it on.
Are these browsers having a war on my computer??? This is getting sickening as hell. I have to use the Sympatico Netscape software because it is the only one serving our community. I use IE because it is faster.
I'm going to the Miscrosoft site to get some bombs, hire the mafia, call in the Mounties, etc.............Joe

It looks to me like your "home" page is still pointing to Netscape's home page. You can change the "home" page to whatever you want by RIGHT clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop, select properties and when the screen comes up the first item is the home page setting.

While you have the Internet Exoplorer properties screen up, click on the Programs Tab and make sure it has Outlook Express (or whatever you want to use) as your default e-mail program. Also click on the Advanced Tab and click on "restore defaults".

Joe, I'm kinda jumpin in here blind, but I
used to have both IE and NTSCPE installed on
my PC, and I had nothing but conflict with
them. I was trying to have 2 separate emails;
one on OUTLOOK EXPRESS, the other on NTSCPE.
You are supposed to be able to transfer one to other, but there's alot of tweaking involved.
Finally I took NTSCPE off, and, now, I'm much the happier person [except for some other things that aren't right now].
FWIW...Chip

I do have both Netscape and IE 5 on my computer as well as Netscape mail and Outlook mail. Have no conflicts between browsers and can receive mail on either/or.
Netscape is far faster in loading pages on the internet than IE5 is, always has been.

Yes, right click on the Internet Explorer and set your home page to http://www.b0b.com/forum - That should fix it! Image

I've used Netscape since 1997, starting with Win3.11/Netscape 2.0 (not good).
I recently upgraded (installed over the existing 4.5) to Commmunicator 4.7, with no problems.
If you prefer Netscape, and are having NS/IE
conflict problems, download the app "IE OFF" (113Kb) at the following link; create a directory for it and place it there. It will painlessly disable or enable IE integration
(both on & off line) in Widows95/98, with the flick of a "switch".
You can get the app, and tons of info about Windows troubleshooting/third party software conflicts and lots more, at
"Windows Annoyances":

Good Luck!
