I installed a Peavey Black Widow 1501-4 in my 5 month old Fender Steel King this afternoon, then spent 4 hours playing / breaking it in. WHAT a difference! I thought it sounded graet before. Now the Combo has more punch, clearer tone hi and low, plus I believe it's louder. As a double bonus it's about 15lbs lighter!
I should have ordered the speaker same time I did the amp!!!
How many of you have replaced the speaker in your Steel King?

I did the same thing and totally agree with what you said. I could never get used to the stock speaker. |

Jim-I am considering doing the same speaker change to my FSK-Did you have much difficulty to do the installation?-The reason I ask is that I also have the 1501 PV BW installed in my Evans FET-500's by Mike Cass-The baffle boards on the Evans had to be cut because I believe the widows were to be front loaded when the stock speaker was back loaded or vice-versa |

Paul, the Black Widow fit like a glove. I installed it in in less than 10 minutes. |

What is the actual weight of the Black Widow 1501-4? I believe the stock FSK speaker is about 22 pounds. Thanks, George |

As an added bonus - if you took the BW speaker out of a Nash or Session 400 to put it in your FSK like I did, you'll find that the Nash/Session sounds better with the Eminence spkr from the Fender. Both amps sound better with each other's speker. |

I put a BW 15" in my WEBB 614-E and I really like the sound. The JBL that was in the WEBB was too shrill even with the EQ dialed in to compensate.
I really like the 15" BW speaker in the WEBB. |

It appears that Fender uses the very same speaker in both the SK and the '65 Twin Custom 15" Since I have both I am just gonna keep the SK speaker as spare for the '65 when I get a replacement BW for my SK |

Count me in on the BW in both the Webb and FSK. I use a 1501-4 DT and it sounds much more even from highs to lows and puts out more mid range. It seems to handle the power of these big amps better, but that might just me my imagiination.

There is also a gain in headroom, especially seen while playing the C neck. The stock speaker was constantly either distorting or clipping with the limiter engaged at high volumes which was really distracting to me while playing. This reason, along with a fuller sound with the BW,is why I switched. |

I did the swap on my Steel King today....and what a difference.....greatly liking the sound produced by the Steel King with a Black Widow as opposed to the factory installed Fender speaker. |
