Junior Barbers demo track: National Style D

Post by Craig Prior »

I originally posted this to a different forum, but it seems like it really belongs here.

I've been haunted by this beautiful little tune since the first time I've heard it. This is the demo track performed by Junior Barber to demonstrate the National Style D (spider bridge) which can be heard here:
http://www.nationalguitars.com/JuniorMD.mp3

This is in standard Dobro tuning (lo to hi: G B D G B D). The beauty of this track, of course, is that it is stated without accompaniment. An absolutely gorgeous melody unadorned with rhythm guitars, drummers, backup singers, or any of the rest of the "essentials."

Just a simple Style D track. Mr. Barber does an outstanding job on this one.

For those who are interested, here is the tab in Adobe format:

Where the melody repeats itself, generally I tab exactly as it was originally stated. Varying the melody seems like a "personal matter."

I realize there's no one providing chords on this cut, but I've included the chordal harmonies. I think this would work just as well as a fingerpicking piece for a guitar tuned in hi G.

Too bad we get to hear so little of it.

Craig.

This song is from one of Junior Barber's CD's. I believe the name of the tune is Summer Rain. Great song
