Apparently, a 20-25 yr old Peavey amp gets fussy and needs the molex plugs cleaned or whatever, so it doesn't cut out or otherwise distort.
Is this a standard "amp cleaning" that can be done by a local electronics amp guy or it is unique and best left to Peavey?
I currently have 3 Peavey amps that need this done.

Not much to it. Any "worthwhile" tech can do it. Basically unplug the connector, spray contact cleaner on both the male and female pins and plug back in.

Tony,

I have fixed many a Peavey amp, even one's that the owner was ready to throw away simply by cleaning all of the quarter inch jacks that route the signal in and out of the amp. These include but are not necessarly limited to the effects loop or any jack that says "send" or "receive" on it. The quick and dirty was of seeing if this is the problem is to spray some contact cleaner spray into the jack and quickly plug a quarter inch plug in and out a few time and see it it comes alive or solves an intermittent problem. Once you find the problem jack, you can either play the amp as is, or disassemble it and clean the jack throughly or replace it completely. I have seen this on other amps as well but it seems to be more prevalent in the older Peavey amps. Maybe it's just because they last so long!!
Many an amp could I have had this way, instead, away went a happy musician!!
I hope this helps. By the way Tony, I found the RISGA 2005 DVD in my cellar today. No need for another now.

I would recommend sending it to Peavey. Its not very expensive to ship just the chassis, and they can fix the problem, plus other potential problems, such as touching up solder joints that can work loose over time. Their techs have always done a great job for me, and their rates are the most reasonable I've ever seen for service this good. Their turn around time is good too. I currently have a Session 400 chassis in there for its 100,000 mile tuneup.

I'll second Darvin's comment. If you're going to take the time to take it in for a checkup; might as well send it to the folks that built it in the first place. I sent in my LTD 400 to Mike Brown and his folks, got the thing back in about a week and it's better than new..

I highly recommend the Peavey service folks.

Mike

I didn't realize there was only a one week turnaround time.
That was why I was even considering having it done locally, but with that kind of quick turnaround, I will send them to Peavey.

I have a bunch of Peavey amps. Had a couple in for repairs. It is really amazing. You get the amp back in a week. Really incredible. Thanks Mike B. for everything. I'm a Peavey fan for life. .. Jeff
