I got to the gig tonight in Houston, plugged in my ProFex, which I only use because the verb is out on my N-ville 400, and the crappy voltage in the club fried my ProFex....scrambled display....dead. I called Rockin' Robin music and asked them what time they close. They said in ten minutes. I asked, do you have a Holy Grail? They did so I rushed down there and bought it. BTW, Rockin Robbin is the coolest music store ever! They could have ripped me, but they gave me a decent discount.
I got back to the club and plugged her in and wow, what a sound. It is not only a great reverb that sounds like a true spring verb, it opened up my amp with clarity and tone like I've never had before. My Rains was happy. You guys with a Nashville 400 MUST try one of these units. The verbs in the N-ville 400 are crap, even when they work. |

Agreed about the Grail. Closest thing to real Fender-type spring reverb ever.
Glad you got lucky with Rockin' Robin. In the past they've had an...err..interesting....reputation as far as amp tech work goes. |

| Chris..Glad you like the HG.. I bought one when they first came out and have been touting thier virtues ever since.. I do NOT understand HOW a cheap and cheesy looking digital pedal can have such a warm analog sound.. Exactly like an old Fender Twin Reverb..No digital remnant or tail...EH really got it down right with this little box.... bob |

| Chris, try resetting the Profex, unplug it, hold the play and global buttons in, while pluging it in. This would return it to the original factory settings. If you have a cashe card with your programs on it, you can reload them. Download the manual from Peavey, if you don't have it. |

It sounded SO close I kept kicking it hoping it would make the "crashing" noise of an old Fender outboard reverb!
FWIW the "flerb" setting is a fun added bonus. Most people hate it alone, but if you try it live it's a great effect. |

If you want to get an extra wow out of a Holy Grail, try using a Fender amp (like a Twin Reverb), set the reverb on the amp at your usual setting and use the Grail on the "hall" positiion at about 11 o'clock. Put the Holy Grail between the steel and the volume pedal (so the signal to the Grail is fairly constant), hit a big fat chord and add volume pedal to increase sustain, sit back and enjoy. Holy Cow! I'm loving this set-up.
I originally bought the Grail as a reverb back-up unit but once I tried the two reverbs together, I use the tandem team all the time. I mounted the Holy Grail to the back right leg of my steel using a George L leg clamp so I can adjust on the fly. Dryer on the faster stuff and wetter on the more moody tunes. |

Bill, I will try that when I get to some clean power. But I've had it with the ProFex. It's just not for me. I play songs that require tweaking on the fly.
Fred I will email you and gladly sell it to you, or anyone else.
Question is, what do I do with my rack GT-1 tuner? I want to illiminate using a rack alltogether. |

Hi,
I also love my Holy Grail - the spring reverb setting sounds better than the real spring reverb on my tube amp, and the hall setting, while too extreme for regular guitar, is great for getting angelic chiming sounds from my lap steel. |

I tried one out with my THD Flexi 50, which has no reverb. It sounded great - the spring reverb setting sounded very close to the spring reverb on any of my old Fenders.
I heard a fair amount of clock noise on high-gain settings when I plugged straight in - I was going for a Sonny Landreth type of sound. But that noise went way down when I used the effects loop. One needs to be careful how to insert this and many other effects, especially in a high-gain situation.
I do wish they'd put this in a smaller box - say a Boss-pedal sized box. There's not a lot of stuff in there, there'd be no problem using a standard-size pedal box. |

I agree with my friend Dave M... Use the HG in the effects loop if the amp has one, ... I have a 68 Showman head that had a loop added long ago and the HG is great with it!!
.... Another thought.. The small power supply that comes with the HG NEEDS to stay cool...If you plug it into the outlet in back of a Fender amp[or ANY tube amp with an outlet},it will burn up fast... Keep it away from a hot tube chassis... bob |
