I'm curious if anyone has tried a pair of Blue Marvel speakers (as comes in Peavey Nashville 112) in a fender twin & how it would sound. If its already set up for 2 speakers, wouldn,t it be an easy swap? (just wondering)

Leonard, the Blue Marvel speakers are 4 ohm which would make a 2 ohm load on the Twin. It should go no more than a 4 ohm load. If you were to do this is would ultimately cause harm to the amp.

That's in parallel. Couldn't they be wired in series for 8 ohms?

Yes, two 4-ohm speakers can be wired in series for an 8-ohm total load, but that isn't really what a Twin Reverb is looking for either. With a tube amp with an output transformer, it expects a certain load, period. The Twin is designed for a 4-ohm load.

Still, some people do use mismatched speaker loads - I think it probably isn't a big problem for a SF Fender if it isn't pushed real hard. Nonetheless, I prefer to run Fenders with the correct speaker impedance. We've had several discussions about this in the last few months.

A 2-ohm load will cause less problems with a Twin than an 8-ohm load. Either will cause a loss of power, and will (probably) negatively impact tone. But a BF or SF Fender, except for a Champ, can handle the mismatch.

The problem, though, with higher impedance (8 ohm in this case) is a phenomenon known as "flyback". It's complicated, but the short version is it smacks your output transformer in a VERY bad way. With a Twin the best thing would be to run just one of those speakers, and control the volume.

FWIW a Bassman head is designed for 4 ohms but I've never seen a problem with 8-ohm loads. But with Twins, especially cranked up, it can be an issue. IF you want to try it, wire it the same as the existing system for a 2-ohm load, but don't expect "normal" results from the speakers, since you've mismatched the components.
