I have a tube amp with a 16 ohm speaker and I have a switch that goes 16,8,and 4 ohms. If I wanted to hook up another speaker that was 8 ohms and use two speakers, where should I set the switch?
Should I leave it on the 16 ohm setting, or use the 8 ohm setting? I think I would have 12 ohms with both speakers connected and I didn't know weather to put the switch higher or lower than the actual ohms.

You shouldn't.

It's a bad idea always to use two different impedance speakers in the same circuit. Your tone will suffer, one speaker will take most of the load, and you'll strain the output transformer.

If you're going to add another speaker, add a 16 ohm one, wire it in prallel and set the switch for 8 ohms. hat will work fine. But adding an 8 ohm speaker to your existing setup is not recommended, either tonewise, powerwise, or amp-healthwise.

No problem. I get amps in with speakers that way, and players wondering why they ended up sounding so bad! Usually it's a Twin, Pro or Super with a 16-ohm speaker added to the mix of 8 ohm stock ones. Really fouls up the sound. One simple speaker replacement...with the correct impedance...and *pow*, it comes back to life.
