Kenny,
'Big Jim' Baron is the guy to get with about Band In A Box - Since he's a swell steelplayer as well as a 'BIAB' dealer, he knows all the 'ins and outs' of using the two together.
Also, he'll 'stick with ya' if ya need help after ya get it.
He's usually around here, or reachable at -

True about Big Jim. He does great work and has a cd available with over 4100 songs doped out for BIAB. Here's one of the most helpful sites available for not only BIAB but many other facets of the music business:
HERE
George is very knowledgeable about BIAB and has an enormous amount of help available for BIAB enthusiasts.

Gary:
Will there be sessions on BIAB in Saint Louis? We're going (our first time) and have no idea what we will be in for -- except a great time and experience. I would guess there will be a schedule of events available once we check in?
My wife uses BIAB -- she plays Bass. My goal is to use BIAB once I learn enough about my steel to do so.

What are the "style sets", exactly? are they preconstructed song lists, or just sort of "tweaks" in a particular style of music? It looks like there are DOZENS ofthem, so that makes me wonder if the basic software is useless otherwise.
How does it compare to Garageband? |

Style sets are different patterns that are tailored around that particular style of music. Once they are on your computer, you can go through and sample them until you find what you are looking for. After that, you can still select different instruments for use on that style.
There are a whole slug of styles that come with the basic program and then there are additional styles that can be bought separately. I recently bought the new Style Set No. 60, "Totally Gospel".[This message was edited by Erv Niehaus on 18 August 2006 at 07:55 AM.] |

Kenny...IMHO, BIAB is the BEST practice tool EVER for us steel players!!! It's so great to be able to work out all the bugs in your playing in the privacy of your own home. |

Like all things technical there's a slight learnin curve involved, but it's an easy task to input chords, choose a rhythm style and your up and runnin. The rest is icing on the cake once you take the time to learn this great program. George Wixon has a great site that has a lot of info on how to do things with Band in a box and PowerTracks. |

I don't know how I ever got by without it. Get Big Jims disk of thousands of songs. You'll probably find enough there to keep you busy for years.
