I turn the amp on and the signal coming from the guitar is very weak and distorted. I have to pick the strings really hard and then the amp will pop really loudly and work fine. Annoying!
Did a search on this great forum of ours on my 400's problem and it seems this is a common one. It's been in and out of the repair shop, I mentioned the molex issue to the repairman but he's going to need more direction on this.
This is the infamous reverb i/o molex plastic connector issue, right?
From the info gleaned in the site search, to fix the problem can I gently pull the wires out of the connector with pliers, spray them with contact cleaner and re-insert them?

No, I wouldn't pull the wires out. They are probably fastened OK inside the molex.
The bad connection is probably where the metal conductor inside one molex piece is not making good contact with the metal on the other piece. Does it work if you wiggle it when they are connected? A little contact cleaning spray may help but you probably don't need to go buy that. Can you see the metal pieces that are supposed to touch each other? There are male/female pairs. You can probably clean them with a tiny screwdriver, and maybe bend them a little so that they make firm contact. |

| Drew, You should also plug a cord into your effects loop jacks and see if the problem is in one of these. It's been known to happen. |

Drew,
Try spraying contact cleaner into the Preamp out and Power amp in jacks (on the back of the amp) and work a plug in and out a few times. Sometimes the contacts get corroded and this should correct the problem. |

| I had this problem for several years, finally I snipped the wires from the female plug and soldered them to the male lugs going into the amp. Haven't had that problem since. Just make sure you attach the wires to the correct lug. |

I had that problem and the local amp doc couldn't fix it...I took the chassis out and sent it to Peavey..a short wait and it was fixed and the MOD was put in..sounds great and only set me back $80.
That's what I'd do if I were you. |
