I saw this old ShoBud amp on ebay some time ago and I put a low bid on it, not expecting to win. To my surprise, I did win the bid. When the amp arrived I stuck in a back room and figured I would sell it to someone cheap. A few weeks later I got around to setting it up and it did not work at all. Now I'm stuck with an amp I don't want that does not work.
I sent it to a friend who is the best in amp repair hoping he could at least get it working. He completely reworked the amp - inside and out. It looks brand new and what a tone! I have it in my studio next to my Webb and I cannot believe how great it sounds.
This amp has a Black Widow speaker which I am sure is not the original speaker. Does anyone know what the original speaker was? I am guessing it would have been a JBL.
This is the ShoBud with two inputs and the controls across the top. (volume, treble middle, bass, reverb) I would be interested in hearing from anyone who knows more about these amps.

i've got an old Sho-Bud brochure from '71 or '72 that shows both amps - the single channel with the knobs across the top, and the dual channel with the knobs in the corner - and it says that they both came with a JBL D130F. |

More importantly, that amp is designed for an EIGHT ( ohm output. Most BW's are 4! If it's not 8 ohms, you will fry the output in short order.
Yes, the D130F was the standard speaker in that amp. |

Chick,
Thanks for the info on that. I'll check it before I play it anymore. I am surprised the amp tech did not notice that. I do have a JBL that I can replace the BW with. |

Did this amp have an effects loop in the back? (Aftermarket of course) It sounds like one that I sold to a man in Kentucky by the name of Oneal Carman. One of the stipulations of selling it to him was that I would keep the D130 and put a black widow in it. I had bought it from Larry Sasser. I used it with John Conlee for years. That amp did sound GREAT. I've often wished I hadn't sold it. |

Rex,
I do believe the man I bought it from was from Kentucky. I'll check my ebay history and see if that is right.
This amp does have casters which do not seem to be original.
Thanks for the reply.
