I played thru two amps (N400's) for years until I got a rack system several years ago. I made the change due to weight. I have used two 4 ohm or two 8 ohm speakers at different times. I love having the wall of sound behind me that two speakers give. I have felt for some time that for those listening that are 15-20 feet from me probably could not tell (or care) that I had two speakers and was in "stereo" mode. Recently I have gone to a bridged mode with one BW 4 ohm cabinet. I have been surprised to find I still get what I think is a great sound with less equipment. I also have the benefit of a terrific increase in power by being bridged. My rack has a TubeFex into an Evans pre into a stewart power amp. I use the Newman presets on the TFex with the EQ set straight up and I control the tone with the Evans pre. My system is like playing thru a 600 watt Evans.....power to spare with weight of 26 lbs for the speaker cab and 35 lbs for the rack...PLUS I sound only half as bad with one speaker. I know everyone is looking for less weight and also wanting power..this works for me and I have the option of going back "stereo" with the addition of another speaker cab.

I only use one speaker...a Marrs with a D-130 in it and a Rocktron Velocity 120 or Mosvalve 160 or 500 power amp set on mono(bridged)...works great!Twice the power from the power amp...most old records we love from the'60s and'70s were cut with one amp-one speaker...I never got comfortable with that big chorused, delay stereo sound in the'80s...the guys who did sounded great-it just wasn't for me...I use this amp in the studio-live around town I use one Peavey 112...on tour with Randy Travis I use one Peavey Nashville 400...

I've got a rack system with two 12" BW speakers. Rarely use it, even tho I put it together for "less weight".

I got "less weight" with a Nashville 112 and it's been all I've used on live gigs since I got it in Feb of last year.

I do use the rack's preamp and effects processor for recording (a Rocktron Preamp and a T.C. Electronic G-Major effects processor).
