| This is an amp worth checking out, especially if you are playing guitar and don't want to lug 2 amps. The clean channel tone on this amp is absolutely unbelieveable; It's not too heavy and has all the power you'll need. 50 Watts Class A with 6L6's. I just used it here in a room with over 1000 people, no problems. Pretty pricey, though. I also have a NV112 but have been favoring the F50 lately. |

Mesa builds great amps. Maybe he should build a dedicated Steel guitar amp.
I think the closest he came was the Mark II 1-15. He actually stated in his literature "If you play Steel, get the 1-15".
I have a 1-15 and a couple of 1-12 Boogies.
The 1-15 has a much better Reverb which is normally a weak point on the Boogies IMO.
At 100 watts with a good speaker it will send toupees in the audience flying.

The F50 is the most tempting of the new Boogie amps, in my opinion. 50 watts of clean tube power is plenty, and you can always pump it into a 15 if you need more bottom.
The old 100 watt Mark 2B amps with a 15" EVM sounded absolutely gorgeous. I actually set up a display at the St. Louis convention with a couple of them in 1984. Problem was, they weighed a TON, and to get that beautiful sound you had to get LOUD. At softer volumes, they just sort of sat there.
That F50 looks real promising to me!

Bob is right on as always. That Mesa weighs slightly less than my Session 500 with the JBL E-130. Not back friendly. At about 2.5 volume it is just starting to sound good, but is hard to stay in the room with.
The Altec speaker helps, and is really warm.
If I were regularly playing out again I would need to opt for a light weight setup.

Has anyone tried this amp with steelguitar? It has received one of only two 5 star reviews ever given by Guitarist magazine: click here. The contour control on channel 2 of this all tube amp is similar to a midrange cut, forming a "V" shape EQ curve. My little Hot Rod Deluxe sounds so good with steel I am tempted to try out this Boogie amp. Like many I am on the fence between buying another tube amp like this or going with the Fender Steel KIng having already owned most of the Peavey amps and looking for a different tone. All of my Peavey amps have been great but my latest venture into the tube sound has got me wondering why not try a Boogie? They seem to hold their value well, so buying used and reselling later is almost no risk with a Mesa Boogie amp.
