Just got my 112 late yesterday evenin. I've tried about 4 different settings including a few I got off the forum, and the books recomended E9 setting. But all of them seem a little muddy to me. I tried the C6 setting the book recomends and I like it a lot better for E9. BTW- I'm using the 3 cord hook-up, no effects. I can live with the tone I'm gettin now, but I think I'm goin to have to use my MPX 110 to get something I'm really satisifed with. Maybe it's the reverb.
How many of you guys are playin straight into the 112 with no effects?

Terry, I play straight in and get a tone that is killer, with just the internal reverb.

I use the same setting for E9 & C6, use an 8 ounce "Stand Back" stand on the floor and tilt the amp back.

My settings are

Pre gain 4
Bass 0-+3
Mid -15
Shift 800
High +3
Presence +3-6
Reverb 5
Post Gain 7

I play live clubs and outside gigs and RARELY ever have to change my settings.

I play a Carter with Bill Lawrence XR16 pickups or an Emmons LeGrande with 108 Humbuckers.

You should break the speaker in for a few hours to get the best tone. I put a few CD's on and plugged my CD player into the amp with the above settings and within a few hours the speaker sounded "sweet"

Thanks Bill. I'll try your settings. I've got my amp tilted back with a dictionary LOL.
Are you using the 3 cord hook-up also?
what size/type cord do I need to hook my CD player up to my amp?

Terry, You can just use a regular guitar cord but you probably have to get an adapter at radio shack to reduce the 1/4 plug to a 1/8th to go into your CD player. I never had good success pluging into the CD jack in the back of the 112 and have either gone into the second instument input from the CD player, or into and out of the post eq. patch using a little 4 channel mixer. The mixer has it's own volume and tone controls. I use this set up with my Steel King also as it only has the one instrument input. You can get a little mixer for well under $100.00. George

Bill, I just tried your settings. Man what a difference!! It's nice to be able to play straight into my amp and get a tone like that! I'm liking this little 112 a lot better now! I was close to your settings except for the mids which I had set on -3 That -15 on the mids made the difference.
and I up'd my reverb to 4. 5 was a tad to much for my Mullen RP. Thanks again

Thanks George. I'll try the CD imput on my amp first, if that don't work I might have to go your route.

Terry, I don't know if you tried the 112 in a live band situation yet, but that's when I found the real sound quality of the amp shining through. I use only a Boss RV-5 instead of the amp's own reverb.
Good Luck,
Arch.

Terry
I do not use the 3 wire hookup with the NV112
I like it better with a single wire.

OK, as much as I am not a big fan of the Peavey 112, I did unplug my recent tube amp purchase and replaced it with the Peavey Nashville 112 for an hour. The tube amp is still a lot warmer to my ears.

But, cranking the 112's Mid control from -3 to -15 does make this amp sound twice as good to me and actually quite usable. I still don't like the sound of a transistor amp with the mids cut severely to "warm up" the sound after playing though amps like the Webb and Fender Deleuxe that have clarity and no mid range "honk".

Thanks for making my Nashville 112 more useful to me!

Hey Terry I got my 112 a couuple weeks ago at the Dallas show, and the more I play it the better I like it. I reckon it's getting broke in. I use the 3 cable hook up, even with a Hilton pedal. Like posted above, I cut the mids back to -9 to -12 and did better. But I am also using a Black Box. so I get to use another variable that I really like. I must admit I have thought about getting rid of the BB but I believe it's a keeper. I keep trying different things though. BTW I play a LeGrande with True Tones. I should be getting my new Desert Rose this week so I'll have another toy in my small inventory.

I can't cut the mids over about -3 on my Franklin with Lawrence 710 pickups or the sound becomes "unbearable".

Same way if I set mine like Bill Ferguson all I would get is highs.

Jack, are you placing your amp on the floor tilted back or off the floor. Makes a huge difference.

Bill, it is up high on an Amp Stand.

Actually the settings for the 112 are close to the settings I used with a Session 500 and with a (factory tone mod) Nashville 400 and almost identical to my Nashville 1000.

I go from Franklin with Lawrence 710's to a Hilton pedal to a POD XT for delay/reverb only (no amp or speaker mods) to the amp.

Jack, my settings are best used with the amp on the floor tilted back.
I don't use those same settings when I lift my amp. I go back to the old NV1000 or NV400 settings to knock down some of the highs.
Bill

You are welcome, Mike

I play straight into the 112, and it sounds GREAT!!. I go from steel>vol.>effects(if any)>amp. I can't remember my settings without looking at the amp, but I'll try to remeber to post them. The tone only gets sweeter with time. My Fessy has never sounded better.
