I have a chance to buy a Session 400 which was purchased directly from Shot Jackson in the mid to late 70's. I'm curious if anyone knows the relative value? The amp is in excellent condition with original cover. Also have found a Sho-bud super-pro, d-10, with 8 @ 5, red maple finish in great condition with nice finish , no dings, Metal could use some polishing and guitar would look great. Appears to have been played very little. What is the relative value of this particular model? Thanks for any input on this. Lonnie Portwood |

Lonnie, there is no "blue book" on musical instruments. But, the original Session 400 carried a U.S. MSRP of $679.50 in 1977. |

If the amp is in Excellent Condition with origional cover.....$350.00 to $400.00 would not be excessive IMO. I have a 1977 Session 400 which I like very much. Many players believe the 70's Session 400's are among the VERY BEST Amplifiers that Peavey ever made. |

I play through two session 400s with upgraded kits (1974 & 1976).
I wouldn't trade for anything past or present.
If it's in good working condition, grab it. As above, approx $400.

Thanks guys for the input. You've helped me make up my mind to buy this amp and the Sho-bud super Pro d-10. Any body want a red maple Sho-bud? Lonnie P. |

DENNIS, tell me about modifications to a session 400? Who does it and what changes?. I bought the steel and amp but have not played thru the amp yet. It cleaned up like NEW!. I do remember years ago I had one and hated the "honky" mid-range even with the mid switch completely off. I sold that amp but wonder if these mod's you mentioned would have fixed that problem? Thanks again for you input. Lonnie |

Thanks Mike. I'm going to play around with this amp a few days to see if it performs well. If not, I'll consider sending to you guys. Thanks again. Lonnie |

I bought a 70's Session 400 LTD on Ebay for #310 about two months ago. The shipping was #40. Since I got it, I have added two handles (from Stewmac) and Pop Off Casters. It's a trick to find the right manual on the Peavy site (put in "session") It is absolutely the best amp I've every owned & that includes Fender Pro-Reverb & MM HD-210/130. It is also the heaviest! Adjusting it is also a trick, because Peavey's are really different from Fenders, but I'm closing in on a good sound.

Value is around $250-$350, maybe more if it's been modded. |

Lonnie,
I sent my original owner Session 400 back to Peavey per Mike Browns' instructions and I could not be happier. It sounds as good or better than ever.
