Does anyone know of an outfit that will repot p/ups? It's a stock early 70's MSA that's gone microphonic. I like the sound just fine (minus the noise). I'm hesitant to take it just anywhere in town.

Alternately, anyone with a similar one that's been replaced--12 string--I'd like to hear from you.

Pot it in a beeswax/parrafin mix. I did that to my extremely microphonic ZB pickup and it did wonders. You'll need to carefully remove the outer protective tape layer without breaking the thin wires. Then you bathe it and stir it in the molten wax bath, (not too hot), and after the bath wipe the warm was from the outer surfaces while the coil cools down with all the wax immersed in it. I've only done this once so I'm no expert, but it worked great for me.

IMO you are better off to pay somebody else to do it. It's a quick and easy job, for somebody who has the right equipment such as a vacuum pump to get all the air bubbles out.
I took mine to Carruthers shop in Venice CA (310 392 3919) and they did it while I waited, for only $15 or so. (Don't hold me to that price!)

I'm pretty sure that Lindy Fralin will do it for you, as will Jason Lollar. I'd have it done, too, if you value the pickup. Potting has a couple of potential hazards that you can avoid by paying a pro.
