So what are these holy grail "moaning" steels going for these days? Anybody know?

My guesstimate is between $500 and $1000 based on condition.

Brad is quite accurate. I picked up a seven stringer for $350 about five years back and since then a number of six and seven stringers ranging from $500 to under $1,000.
You won't be sorry if you get a good clean one; one having not been messed with by some mechanical goon. Most are in remarkably good shape.

My guess is today's price would be closer to $1,000 for a nice one. And well worth it, I might add.

I took my 37 pat pend B6 to the Arlington Guitar Show this weekend to get a feel for value. It is in good shape. It is the one on Rick Aielo's site under restorations(Rick has it as a 1938 B6). Individuals that stopped me knowing what it was thought $900 was a good price for it. Two dealers offered $700 and $750.

Don't go by the Freedom guitar prices. They are very overpriced in almost every category of guitar. If you call them on the phone, they will often take a lower price.
