Mike, I own a N-112. What technology Did the Standel amps have that seems to be missing in todays amps. Maybe it is my ears but I really love the sound of Webb amps and of the old Standel's. It seemed like I never saw any other kind years ago . Thanks Ray

Ray, that is a tough question for "anyone" to answer without a Standell schematic diagram. Also, are you comparing apples to apples? As far as I remember, Standell did not manufacture a steel amp.

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply , I was just referring to almost all of the artists that played the KRNT theater in Des Moines , Iowa years ago. Once in a while they had Sho-Bud amps. But I remember a lot of steelers playing thru Standel amps. They were sweet. I do like this N-112 but i'm still looking fof that crisp Tube amp. Thanks again, Ray

Just my opinion but the only way to get a tube sound is to buy a tube amp. There are great amps made of different brands but I have yet to find an amp that is SS, that can sound like tubes, no matter what the maufacturer says.

Ray, I remember that Johnny Cox told me that he liked the two Sho-Bud amps that he was given by Curly Chalker. But, they were rated to produce about 60 watts(?).
Designing and manufacturing a tube amp is no big feat as we have done this hundreds of times since 1965. The trick is designing and manufacturing a steel amp that sounds good, has plenty of features and is lightweight(emphasis on lightweight).
We have reduced the weight from 66lbs. on a Nashville 400 to 57lbs. on a Nashville 1000 even though the cabinet is larger in size. Our competitor has introduce their steel amp model that weighs 65lbs. and it is just another amplifier. ????????????????????????
Now, designing a lightweight "tube" amplifier is another venture. Technology is in place to offer a good sounding lightweight tube amplifier but......................................... it will be pricey! I'm not so sure that steelers are willing to pay into the thousands for an amplifier even though they pay into the thousands for their steel guitars.

| If your looking for an amp with power and the Tube sound. Just call Brad Sarno and get a Black Box,hook it in line with your peavey, or whatever amp your playing and you are ready to go. |

Mike, I remember seeing Curly in '69 at Dewey Groom's Longhorn Ballroom. In his set with two Sho-Bud amps, (possibly the same two Johnny have) Curly was having trouble getting enough clean sound. He complained the house power was down and causing the amps to play less-than ideal for his taste.
He had to switch the pickups to single tap trying to clean up the sound.
I didn't realize they were only 60 watts per. |

I guess I have enough Peavey amps and other products to qualify as a Peavey buff.
I recently received my old Session 400 back from Peavey. This is the original 400 with the D-130F JBL speaker in it. I plugged up my old black p/p and the sound is out of this world. I can also plug it into my Nashville 112 through a black box and a Hilton pedal and it sounds great too.
Maybe it is my imagination but, I use George L cables with the gold ends and feel I have the best equipment that can be bought.So if there is something wrong with the sound it is no doubt my ability to set the proper settings on the equipment and get the most out of my guitar.
Just my 2 pennies.....
