Who plays thru Fender Steel King

Post by Leon Eneboe »

Who owns and plays thru the new Fender Steel King amp? How does it compare with the Peavey line.

I own two Steel Kings and I love'em. The only way I can describe it to you is that the Steel King has more punch to it. The note seperation is better to me than my Nashville 400. Others may be able to explain it a little better than that but that's my 2 cents worth. I still own two Nashville 400's and will never part with them as I still love the sound of them as well but the Steel King just kicks butt.

It has a sound and presence all it's own. It does not sound like a PV or a Webb or an Evans. If you are looking to get away from the others and branch out this is the way to go.

Im with you fellers! I just love the sound of my Steelking. Good string seperation and power to spare.I also like the sound of its six spring Actutronics reverb better than most that I have ever heard.Yes it has its own unique sound. Not gonna get into a better or worse than....Just a sound all its own.PV,s and Evans and the rest are fine amps as well, like the others said, these are just different. What a boring world it would be if we all liked vannila! Yup, exactly the same comments from me.
It has its own sound (Fender?!) and I agree it seems to allow for greater "string seperation", if that's even possible!
I brought it to our last RISGA meeting (www.risga.com) and the other players were very favorably impressed.

Love my F.S.K.! It even gives my Evans FET500LV with 1501 PV Black Widow a run for the money <FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 28 February 2005 at 11:31 AM.]</p></FONT>

Spending a little time with my Steel King, I can get it to sound like my Webb, but I can't get my Webb to sound like my Steel King....You can dial in the Steel King to lay in the background, or you can dial it in to step right out front ....Either way it sounds great ....It's got the most versitile EQ of any Steel amp out there IMHO ....I would not want to say "better than " either ...Everyone has his or her own taste when it comes to what sounds best .....Jim

Im sorry guys but I've never got the clarity out of a PV like I have the SKing so IMHO i think it is a better amp TOOOOOOOOO MEEEE.

Also try some different speakers like some vintage jbl's 8ohm and run another jbl 8ohm ext cab to get your full potential on a loud job and the tone is even better IMHO.

most of the time the amp has plenty of power with just the one 8ohm jbl. which brings it to the same power level as a new stock Evans SE200.
Because the Evans is not really a 200 watt amp from the factory since they send it with an 8ohm speaker.
Its 200 watts if you put a 4ohm load on it with an extension cab or a 4ohm speaker, but not stock by it self.

So other words anybody that is happy with there stock SE200 power will be just as happy with SKing if you put a nice vintage 8ohm speaker in it.
Hope that helps.
However I got one of the first little 112 peavey's and couldnt stand it, but i hear everybody raving about those, so maybe i just didnt get a good one or have it set right?
I'm willing to try one again. But the King is a different class amp. Mucho Good!!

I also play through a Steel King. By far the best amp for steel guitar I've ever owned. I can't imagine anyone not liking this amp. I hope Fender has more to come for the steel guitar market as they have sure hit a home run with the Steel King.

We recorded the band live a week ago or so and at extremely low volumes I was clearer and cleaner than I have ever been in the last 34 years. At higher volumes it will peal paint, saves on paint scrapers and brushes that way.

So Larry, does that mean the FSK is the "hands-down-the-best-steel-amp" you've ever had.

Is it your main gig amp?

Would you replace it if it was stolen?

Would you disfigure the guy who took it?

If the amp was a woman would you let it be the mother of your children?

Tony is it the best I ever had, I would say it speaks to me in a different way that my many PV and Webb amps have not. Better, I would only say it is the cleanest amp I have ever had.

I would replace it in a heartbeat.

I am at Jubitz this week end you need to take a trip to Portland and see "the boys".

I want to buy a Steel King real bad especially after reading all these great reviews, but am not having much luck obtaining one. I ordered a steel king amplifier from our local fender dealer 4 months ago and so far he tells me he has not been able to get one. I called a second Fender dealer 100 miles away and he says he has never heard of the Steel King. Is there a long waiting for these amplifiers? I am currently using a couple of NV400's but would like to try something different.

You can get the FSK through the Carter Steel Guitar company. Not sure but I think it's $699.00 shipped. You can check their website and get all of the info there. Probably tax too.

I finally got my Fender Steel King Amp today. It's pretty cool, the manual is only 2 pages - which I appreciate - and it's pretty straight forward to dial in a good tone. It has a 10db pad and a limiter to help keep it from overdriving. It has 2 clip lights, preamp and power amp - so deaf people can tell if it's crapping out. It sounds real good. I like it - I think I'll keep this one!

BTW, the more I play with my new FSK the better it sounds, and the more I like it.
And you can quote me.

In fact, I just ordered another one.

Just to let everyone know, my local Fender dealer received my FSK today. I picked it up at noon and have'nt stopped playing it since. It is one awesome amplifier and I have'nt even adjusted any of the knobs. They are all at 12:00 and the sound is gorgeous. Certainly keeps you interested in playing steel. Can't wait to take her out on a gig.
