He he by the way, I'm talking about volum pedal pots (goodrich). I found some cheap pots on the net, and the info I found was this: LOG potmeter, RV4SAYSD504C mil code, 1.2 cm high, 2.8 cm diameter. I know the physical size is right, but what about the code? And whats the difference between Log and Audio taper? And yeah they are 500k.

I think log taper and audio taper are the same. They both work fine.
Nobody knows how long pots will last these days, so I say if they cost less than $10, but them. |

Log and Audio tapers are not the same. They will both work, but audio taper is especially designed for the performance curve of the human ear. Most people would not be happy with a foot pedal with a Log tapered pot. |

I always used log taper pots. You want the most gain in volume in the shortest amount of pedal travel. |

I am unclear about how the Fletcher-Munson curves relates to log or audio pots. I see how they relate to loudness contours in amps. What is the conclusion that can be drawn with regards to log or audio tapers?

Tommy, here is the rundown on your pot
RV4SAYSD504C
RV4 = MIL style RV4
S = panel & shaft steel Bushing
A = without switch
Y = as per MIL-R-94 temperature & moisture characteristics
S = slotted Shaft Style
D = 7/8" Shaft Length
504 = Total resistance value in Ohms: first 2 digits significant, third digit = number of zeroes (500000 = 500k)
C = logarithmic 10% Taper & Tolerance

Charlie, I think the reference is in the rate at which humans perceive changes in volume, which comforms to neither linear or logrithmic curves. |
