Volume pots -- AGAIN.

I see that many steel players are not satisfied with some of the pot`s for vol peds. I`ve just ran in to a batch of newer "Clarostrats" that were awful.

I tried the vol peds from a couple of steel playing friends.

The problem are that on a scale from 0 to 10 the pots worked like there was NO 1,2 or 3.
It was from zero to 4 with just barely move of the pedal.
I couldn`t play a balled type of song at all.

As it turned out my backup vol ped had the same pot and is just as terrible.

What is going on?

Are the new Canadian pots better?

Yeah forget it ...no joke about pots....

Dag; yes indeed; the Ohmite pot is much much more superior to the clarostat, as the clarostat is PURE Garbage...ha.

Dag,
I used the Canadian pots also for the last 5 years. They are the best I could find. They sound fine and last. Although I eventually gave up and tried out a Hilton. I didn't want to like it so much but the Hilton blew me away. No more pots for me.

Well, it sounds like the problem is that someone is supplying linear taper pots instead of audio taper, or log taper pots. I've run across distributors who tried to tell me that "the linear taper is a manufacturer's equivalent, and will work fine".

Bullhockey!

The pot has to have a log or audio taper to work properly. Accept nothing else.

End of story.

About volume pots
I gave $3500 for a canadian pot and your right aboutitstinks Its on or off Iam still looking for a good pot for an emmons ped.

After paying $25 ea for 3 Canadian Pots and none of worked more than three days, I bought a Hilton. Love the clear sound and even taper of the signal. Cost me $75 to find out how good the Hilton Pedals are.
