I am looking for an AKG 414 microphone.
There are a lot of models of the 414 these days.
C 414 B-XLII
C 414 B-XLS
C 414 B-ULS
Are any of these the same as the 414 that was available in the late 70's early 80's.
Were there as many versions back then or can I just look for a 1978 AKG 414.

In the 70's there were the 414EB mics. It's got a silver front grill and a black back grill. Here's a link to AKG's website.

There were and are several versions of the 414, the primary difference being with or without transformers. Otherwise they are all pretty much the same performance-wise. |

They're all good. Try and find a good used one for under $500 and you're doin things smart. I've got two of them - a mid 60s C-414 with the built-in cable that I picked up in 1987 for $550 and a newer B-ULS which I got used for $200. It's the best mic for the money - even if you have to buy it new. If you can get anything you want, get a brand new C-414 B-XLII. |
