This is such a beautiful instrument I think I'm going to have to call it a cello Weissenborn. Seriously, it's certainly the prettiest instrument I have even thought about owning.

And it sounds amazing, even better than I remembered when I played it at the Florida Folk Festival. I've got to admit I;ve never played any other bari weissenborn, but I can't imagine one looking or sounding better than this. I'll post some pictures later, but here are some sound samples I recorded this morning:

It's 27 inch scale, not sure of the gauges (I'll check and get back to you guys).

This was tuned open D tuned down to B, from low to high B F# B D# F# B.

The first track is a single take, the second was two tracks. No EQ, compression or verb, just mikes to the Tool. OK they are nice mikes (an AER Ribbon and a Neuman TLM 103).

Sweet Dan! Rich emailed me today and told me you bought the 'demo'. Congrats!
I have a few pics of that guitar Rich sent them to me way back when. If you want me to email them to you to post just yell.

Beautiful playing too, "What Would I Do" is haunting.

Thanks, Mike.

I love that song (What would I do), it's an old 50's Ray Charles song that I have co-opted.

Go ahead and send me photos, I'm not sure if I can stop playing this thing long enough to take some pictures.

Dan, I had the pleasure of playing your new guitar at the Newport Guitar show in August. It's truly one of the nicest looking acoustic steels I've ever seen. Rich does some beautiful and subtle inlay work. Because of all the background noise, I really couldn't hear well enough at that venue to judge its tonal qualities but it sure sounds great when you play it. Enjoy making more music on that superb ax!

To be honest with you, I would have bought it if it had looked fugly, because it sounds that good. But I'm OK with owning an instrument that beautiful. Everybody who knows me is now saying, you are an idiot for buying something that pretty, because it will be road worn instantly. But the killer Moll case that it came with might help. Maybe. Hopefully. Oh, hell, it's gonna get dinged, I don't care.

Conratulations Dan. And you play it beautifully--of course.

Kudos to Mermer too.
