The tentative schedule for the 2004 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association's Joliet, IL Convention (Oct 14-16) has been posted on the HSGA website. Check it out.

Looks like a great show this year with some new players on the stage.

Rick Aiello at 10:20 am on Thursday? You up for that, Rick. They may have to wake you. Nah, just kidding--Rick's a busy daddy--crack of dawn type.

Jeff, I don't think you understand how widespread and in the forefront of people's minds the Hawaiian Steel Guitar was in the 1920's and 30's. It was everywhere and the entire world population followed it like they follow professional sports today!

This 1928 advertisement for at-home, do-it-yourself Hawaiian Steel Guitar lessons is actually an "edited, cut down" version of the original ad. In the original ad, the two girls on the phone are saying....

Come on over and bring your pre-war original formula Bakelite Rickenbacher with the 1.5 inch functioning/not decorative horseshoe magnets which are still charged to the original gaus value. And while you're at it, bring your 2 3/4" x 3/4" bullet nosed bar because anything longer will inhibit your reverse slants. And don't forget... we want you to bring at least a 7 string guitar because we like the option of hearing a dominant 7th chord in the lower register or at least one or two songs in the C6/A7 tuning which has yet to be invented.

(Play the guitar and get TWO girls... some things are timeless )
