Reso pickup (passive or active?)

I would like to buy a Fishman resophonic pickup for my Beard Goldtone.My question is,do i go with the active pickup with the built in preamp? if so,where do you put the battery?
Or should i go with the passive pickup along with an outboard preamp. And what preamp do you suggest. I was looking at the Fishman Platinum series.
Or could i get by with just the passive pickup Fishman makes, and forget about any preamps.I would appreciate any suggestions you guys or gals could give me.

Gary, I've got a Flinthill dobro and have the active Fishman with the preamp built in the input section and have been quite happy with it. I plug it directly into the board and it sounds quite natural, with a fair amount of gain too. The batter was installed under one of the soundscreens so it could be changed quickly. They get thousands of hours on them so I haven't changed it in a couple of years.

Gary,
I went with the passive reso pickup. I didn't like the idea of having to open up the guitar to change batteries. Also if you go with an external pre-amp, you can opt for one with volume and tone controls which is kind of handy.
However, before investing in a preamp, try playing without one. I play mine through a Marshall acoustic amp. It has an adjustment to compensate for the low output of the pickup and boosts the signal enough so I don't need a separate preamp.

I'm using a passive McIntyre Feather and it's all I need; sounds very good!
