I was hooking up a Motu 828 to my friend Mac for him to do some home recording. It connects to the Mac via fire wire and is used to hook up inputs(Mics, instruments) and outputs(to the monitor speakers) to the Mac. It worked fine for about 2 minutes just running a loop track out to the monitors, then the Motu just died, dead. There are no obvious fuses, unless they are internal. I tried a different power source, and unplugging it for a while just in case it has an internal breaker. Any ideas?
Thanks

Mine did that once, but it came back to life after It was off for a few minutes. You might try restarting it without the firewire cable plugged in, and see if that helps.
You could also post the question over at Unicornation.com , where there is a very active MOTU forum.

Were you using the firewire bus for power or did you plug it in to the wall?

Thanks Jerry, maybe it does have some sort of internal breaker after all. Maybe i just didn't leave it off long enough. I'll stop by my buddies house and check 'er out tomorrow.
Brad, it has a power connector similar to a PC so it was not pulling power from the fire wire cable.
Thanks Guys

A friend of mine uses the 828.... he has had 3 different units in a year and a half...they just die sometimes. He sends it back to MOTU and they send him another for something like 50 bucks..... So if restarting fails it is probably time to contact tech support.... |

Almost for sure it's the INTERNAL thermal cut-out circuitry..
