Hello,
I have an Ernie Ball volume pedal and I have noticed that when I disconnect the volume pedal and go directly to my amp the clarity of the sound is far superior. My Ernie Ball is an older model and I was wondering if someone could recommend a new volume pedal which would eliminate the sound problems. I understand that Hilton and Goodrich are both good companies. Does anybody have a favorite model? Thanks,

| The Ernie Ball uses a 250k pot, which drains a fair amount of presence from the signal. Passive steel guitar volume pedals use a 500k pot. Much better! |

Terry you will get glowing recommedations for both the Hilton and the Goodrich and both are truly great pedals. I have the LDR Goodrich and I am very happy with it..

Terry, a lot of steelers agree that the hilton pedal is the best. It is a bit pricey but it has a built in preamp with max/min level ajustments, tone control and does not affect the tone in a bad way. If anything, it will make it better.
I am quite pleased with the Goodrich 120 passive pedal, but I like the Hilton better.

i have the new goodrich LDR2 and it is amazing what you get out of your guitar
you won't believe it so much difference on positive side.

Cor,
When you say this Goodrich pedal is 'absolutely the best', do you mean you've tried the Hilton pedal also and this Goodrich is far better than that one, or do you mean that the Goodrich is much better than the old pot and string pedal you were using before. On what basis are you making a comparison?

| Terry,i have several,and the hilton will kick butts,i use 2vintage sho-buds,fine with the new canada pots,i have a emmons fine with the new canada pot,i have a zum steel,fine pedal,have used a goodrich several times,good pedal.thing i really like is the hilton has adjustmests on the bottom,even the old pedals with the new canada pots,have more highs and lows.since having these i don't really need to buy anymore,but if i were to,it would be the hilton!! they are all good if you put a newer pot in them.i never unplug my hilton,its almost a year old.there was some talk,about the sunshine effecting the goodrich pedal.i can't say on that. farris |

Given that the high-end pedals would still sound better, is it possible to replace the 250k pot in an EB with a 500k pot ?
Or, would it require additional modifications to work with a different pot ?

| If you have a "passive" pedal (pot only, no preamp), you can replace it with a pot of any resistance. So, yes, you can replace the 250k with a 500k..........JD |

sorry for the late reply on that volume pedal but what i was meaning it is far better than the pot pedal
just because i didn't try the hilton so i can't compare it to the hilton.
and the new LDR2 has also pots under for adjust tone and gain but i like the direct input most in other terms you get the full frequency.
and that is what we needed to hear what is in the guitar.
